Climate change is placing the health of current and future populations at risk.Bringing together public health and climate action is integral to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, an integration recognised in the single Departmental Plans. Urgent action is needed by national government and local communities to manage, mitigate and adapt to these risks.Such action requires public support, including public support for lifestyle changes and investment in public health infrastructure. However, little is known about people’s perceptions of the health risks of climate change or about their priorities and preferences for actions to address these risks.
This project aims (i) to provide evidence on people’s perceptions of the health risks of climate change and their priorities for action and, thereby, (ii) to help to inform national policies and local action plans to reduce climate-change related risks to health.
Principal Investigator
- Report on perceptions of the health risks of climate change (based on findings from focus groups and OLS (Opinions and Lifestyle Survey) data)
- Report on priorities for action to reduce health risks ofclimate change by national and local government, including willingness to pay (to include factors likely to influence these outcomes e.g. individual circumstances, perceptions of heath risks and experience of climate-change related risks)
- Summary report and linked dissemination event to inform cross-government approaches to public engagement in health and climate change, including public perceptions of risks and priorities for action
